The Power of Myth and Archetype
Original price was: $198.00.$150.00Current price is: $150.00.
Joseph Campbell firmly believed that myths provide clues to our spiritual potential. His motto “Follow Your Bliss,” indicates that we should trust our inner guidance to understand the meaning of life not based solely on the external world but on the internal as well. Carl Jung’s discovery of archetypes as images or symbols help us gain a deeper knowledge of the Self through identification. Together, along with holotropic states of consciousness, these powerful concepts can expand one’s perspective to develop a deeper sense of wholeness.

- Choose a myth or archetype that you identify with and share why it specifically resonates with you.
- Reflect and determine how you experience the masculine and feminine aspects of any archetype.
Session Descriptions:
Week 1: An introduction to myth and archetype understood through the lens of Joseph Campbell and Carl Jung will be discussed. Archetypes are used in myths and storytelling across different cultures. An archetype is a universally understood symbol or behavior that can emerge in a non-ordinary state of consciousness (NOSC) for inner knowledge or emulation. You will come to understand why these concepts are beneficial for self-understanding and self-growth. We will identify with the Shaman and other archetypes that often emerge in holotropic states of consciousness.
Week 2: Ancient myth generally identifies a character that experiences an initiatory ritual process or a long, arduous journey. This can also be considered a hero or heroine’s journey. We will first focus on various mythological journeys relating to male gods, demigods or supernatural humans. Starting with the Epic of Gilgamesh, and including Jesus, Buddha, the Sumerian Tammuz (Dumuzi), and the European Fisher King.
Week 3: Have you ever experienced a strong unrelenting desire or a deep sense of surrender to the divine? This week the focus will be on myth and archetype as it pertains to mystical states of consciousness and the feminine inward journey to include Inanna’s call to the underworld, Mother Mary’s immaculate conception, The Black Madonna/Mary Magdalene, and the myth of the Handless maiden.
Week 4: We will explore what myth or archetype you resonate with or what symbolism has been a recurring theme in your life journey. You will have time to share how this has helped shape a transformative time in your life. The range of possibilities can be a recurring theme from a non-ordinary state of consciousness, a spirit animal connection, identifying with a powerful archetype or exploring ancient mythology
